The cat was considered the most beautiful of all animals in existence, but he was afraid to fall asleep during the trip, since his nature was a very sleepy one. He asked his friend the rat to ride on his back so he would not fall asleep on his trek. But the rat decided not to follow him because she felt very ugly in comparison to such a beautiful animal, and was afraid that the Emperor would reject her as soon as he saw them together. The cat lost out on his chance to arrive on time and was replaced by the pig, and since then the rat and the cat hate each other.

The emperor was greatly awed by the animals, and happy for their visit, he decided to divide the year among them according to the order in which they arrived to visit him. This beautiful story explains how the twelve animals in this horoscope were chosen.
